Due to Covid restrictions the WSSCSW were obliged to find a new location for our Championship Show instead of the usual Chepstow Leisure Centre. We were very pleased to find FOREST OAKS FARM so close to home - it is a new facility especially tailored to dog friendly holidays and events - please take some time to go visit their website - www.forestoakfarm.co.uk.
We are looking forward to staging this, our 40th Anniversary show, at Forest Farm and we're sure you will enjoy your day out with us there. And, of course you can be assured of our usual Warm Welsh Welcome
Tim Harrison – (Glenbrows)
The history of the Glenbrows Kennel goes back many years; the origins stem from me showing Glen of Imaal Terriers and black and tan cockers with tan eyebrows – the Glen and the brows! Much success was enjoyed in both of the breeds, the pinnacle being Sh Ch Glenbrows Raincloud JW gaining his title and best of Breed Crufts 1999.
The Welsh joined the kennel in 2001 following a visit to the great Cleavehill Kennel of the late Jean Taylor, before our children were born, theoretically for another ESS for Honor, however a 2 year old little red and white madam had other ideas! A very shy Cleavehill Ceri decided that I was to be hers, and so she joined us in Derbyshire.
In the early days of showing Ceri a chance conversation with John Thirwell led to a very hairy 12 week old puppy joining us, he was to become Honor’s dog. These first two welsh became Sh Ch Cleavehill Ceri for Glenbrows and Sh Ch Ferndel Storyteller for Glenbrows JW Sh CM respectively, but most of all they were the closest friends of our then two very young sons, and all the present day kennel descend from these two.
Many homebred Champions have now followed, however our dogs are very much a family affair, and champion or not, each of our dogs is part of the family. In the show ring we are very proud to claim a number of champions, several breed club championship show best in show winners; Crufts best of Breed winners; top dog; top bitch; top puppy and top breeders.
‘Glenbrows’ champions are found internationally in WSS, cockers, ESS, Sussex spaniels and a Curly coated retriever.
I thank the club for their kind invitation and I am very much looking forward to my visit.
Mrs Jan Janes (Coedybrain)
Jan attended an agricultural show as a spectator back in the early 1970s and was bitten by the showing bug, but she quickly realised that her present dogs, an Irish Setter and a Welsh Springer were not show potential.
So she embarked on finding her first ‘show’ Welsh who was of Dalati breeding, arriving in 1978. Jan went on to show Irish Setters as well as her Welsh for several years with some success but it was on a visit to the Wainfelin Kennel of Mansel & Avril Young she purchased a bitch pup who went on to become Sh.Ch. Wainfelin Chantilly Lace ‘Sian.’ Sian was a delightful girl and is behind all the current Coedybrain dogs to date. Sh. Ch. Coedybrain Dafydd, Sh.Ch.Coedybrain Carys at Typica JW Sh.CM, Sh.Ch. Coedybrain Nelli and the latest Sh.Ch. Coedybrain Nia at Cwmbeili.
Jan says she is privileged to have been involved in the South Wales show scene when the great kennels of Pencelli, Tregwillym and Dalati were around to learn from. Advice she received has stayed with her to this day, and has helped shape her appreciation for breed type. When asked she always states among her favourites, Sh Ch. Wainfelin BarleyMo and Sh.Ch. Dalati Afan.
Jan has judged the breed at CC level on many occasions, including the Swedish and Finnish Club Shows, SKC and the SEWSSC the most recent.
Jan is very much looking forward to judging at her ‘own’ Club Show especially as it’s the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the Club of which Jan has played a huge part since its inception.
