MAKE IT A GREAT DAY OUT
Even if you are not showing your dog why not come along to support the competitors. There's refreshments available in the leisure centre's cafe.
It's a great opportunity to meet up with club members and see a multitude of Welsh Springers in one place - and learn all about them.
As we are located in Chepstow it's a great setting-off place to go and explore the beautiful Wye Valley - there's the famous Chepstow Castle and the wonderful Tintern Abbey is just 5 miles away.
Why not arrange a dog walk with friends and family and drop in to see us at lunchtime or later on to see the awards of the day's winners.
There's always a warm welcome at our shows and it's the ideal place if you want to learn more about the breed - we look forward to seeing you there.

For those who groom their dogs themselves you may be interested to know that Scissor Sharpener Tony Chappell will be there offering an on-the-spot service and he also sells high quality scissors and clipper blades, natural shampoos, conditioners and finishing sprays. And remember, if you come along to the show make sure to check out the Club Shop organised by our President Mrs Kath Morgan.

Suzanne Backhouse – (Aindrea)
From an early age I have had a love for dogs and growing up we always had a dog around the house. My sister Lisa had an ESS called Nellie who I started working when I was 15. My love for spaniels and the enjoyment of working grew and in 1991 I bought and trained a working ESS for the gun and had many years of enjoyment beating and shooting.
In 1992 I started working for Mrs Jean Taylor (Cleavehill). This is where I first found Welsh Springer Spaniels and first encountered the world of showing. As a favour to Jean, one Welsh Springer Spaniel Cleavehill Caerphilly (Nerys) came to live with me and my parents to be socialised, she never really enjoyed the show scene. Nerys had a litter in 1996 of which I kept Cleavehill Dylan of Aindria and Cleavehill Guinevere. Dylan went on to gain two RCCs and Guinevere went on to gain her stud book number and her Show Gundog working certificate under the expert handling of my dad.
As working secretary for the North of England Welsh Springer Spaniel Club in the year 2000 myself and a team of 6 went to the WSS breed symposium working test. We had never done a test before but we had been training hard and came 3rd which was a big achievement for our club being new to the working side. To date I have had three show champions. Sh Ch Cleavehill Kaluo Spice at Aindrea (Tia) came to me in 2000 and was made up in 2004. Sh Ch Highclare Viking Venture (King) came to me after Jean Taylor’s passing.
I showed King to his crowning CC on an emotional day in 2005 at Border Union. I bred Sh Ch Aindrea Giacinta JW (Scarlet) from a mating between Tia and King. Scarlet was made up in 2007. In the same litter was Sh Ch Aindria Miss Caruso at Nyliram JW who had a great show career.
I have been on the committee of the North of England Welsh Springer Spaniel Club for 19 years starting with the post of working secretary and currently holding the Treasurer’s position.
I have over 17 years judging experience, my first appointment being in August 1998 and enjoyed my first Championship show judging at Gundog breeds of Scotland in 2013.
Richard Morris – (Lascoed)
Thirty five years after first judging “Welsh”, having owned and bred the breed for fifteen years from 1975, I am honoured and delighted to be judging for this successful Club, especially as being a founder member of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales.
Although primarily a Labrador kennel, during the 1980s “Lascoed” produced two stud book entries together with an Open Show Best in Show and Crufts class winner in WSS. I was privileged to know some of the great local breeders of the day notably Cliff and Mary Payne (Tregwillym), Mr. Harold Newman (Pencelli) and Mr George Couzens (Krackton) and well remember the outstanding specimens of Show Champions Roger and Progress of Pencelli, Ch. Contessa of Tregwillym and the many wonderful “Dalati” dogs from the golden era of the 1970s.
As an all-rounder gundog specialist I award CCs in six breeds in the group, have passed breed specific seminars in every full KC recognised breed in the group, being “B” listed or above for every gundog breed except three. This is the fourth occasion on which I have awarded CCs in “Welshies” and will thoroughly enjoy assessing this most beautiful example of the spaniel breeds.
I wish all exhibitors success and a very enjoyable day at this excellent Club Show.
